It is difficult to spot a white crow among swans if you are not looking hard enough; the same applies to any profession so here we present a few tips on how to find a disc jockey who knows the job what he is paid for.
First comes the level of experience. Sure enough, the disc jockey performing to earn a living shall have more of it than someone doing it for fun or as a hobby, but then again, there are hobbyists who can give professionals a run for their money. Unfortunately, their numbers are discouragingly low; therefore, unless you have witnessed at least a few of their performances, it is advised that you stick with the professionals.
Secondly, it is the style of music they play. If your guests prefer a mix of house, trance and techno, then choosing a disc jockey playing a combination of oriental styles and progressive rock is not going to do. Besides, he must also be able to reciprocate to the public demand; unless he can create real time mixes out of the numbers that the people are demanding, all you are going to earn is a bad name. Your former identity as a music connoisseur shall fall apart within no time. Also make sure whether he carries back-up equipment in case any of the wired ones fail.
Fillers are an essential part of any kind of showmanship; in the case of disc jockeys, fillers come in the forms of witty humors and words that keep the crowd charged. Together with the wardrobe the disc jockey features, it is going to deliver that special concoction in both an audible and a visual manner. Funky, as the industry calls it; the essence should ooze strongly from both the music and the appearance of the disc jockey to keep the crowd encoring all through the night.
