Looking to decorate your home but don't want to empty the bank to do it? There are several ways to achieve a new look without spending a fortune! Here are some ideas to use what you have when decorating.

Achieve a fresh updated look by using what you already own. Find a focal point in the room to be redecorated and rearrange your furniture to accentuate that point of interest. Create a u shaped conversation area by grouping together a few occasional chairs and a side or accent table! Avoid pressing all your furniture up against the walls. Create balance, asymmetrical or symmetrical.

Don't be afraid of color! Merely painting a room or an accent wall can work wonders to create a crisp new look in your home. Cool colors make a room appear larger, while warm colors make a room appear smaller, yet cozy.

Artwork is very important in a room. It creates visual interest and can act as a guide to go off of to further enhance your room. Hang artwork 3 inches lower than eyelevel. Try to leave one wall blank to give the eye a place to rest.

Keep collections together. Rotate your accessories seasonally. Less is more when it comes to knick-knacks. Eliminate as much clutter as possible!

Lighting in a room should consist of both general illumination and task lighting. Use accent lighting whenever possible to emphasize your art and accessories!

With a little trial and error you can become your own decorator!
