There are so many kitchen cabinets
out there, that choosing a style that complements your home’s overall décor
can be tricky. Here are some pointers on choosing kitchen cabinets for your style.
In general if your home is older and more traditionally decorated, choose kitchen
cabinets that give a traditional look. If your home is modern and sleek, choose
kitchen cabinets that are the same. Keep in mind space, functionality, and color
as well.
Below are a few terms that you may find useful when choosing your kitchen cabinets:
Custom: For high quality and style, custom kitchen cabinets
are best. These cabinets come in a vast array of styles and colors, and are
designed to specifically suit the space, style and functionality of your kitchen
Framed: This is a cabinet box that has a face frame to which
doors are secured.
Frameless: This is a style with doors attached to the sides
of the cabinet box, using hidden hinges.
Inset Doors/Drawers: Doors and drawers that are inset are
flush with the cabinet frame.
Overlay Doors/Drawers: These kitchen cabinets are the most
common style for stock cabinets (see below for definition of stock). They overlap
the frame when closed.
Semicustom: These kitchen cabinets are produced by factories
using common sizes, but come with an array of options, including glass inserts
and storage features.
Stock: Stock kitchen cabinets are produced by factories in
common sizes, colors and shapes and are usually stored at the factory or retail
outlet.
