Use the moving checklist below to help make your move go as smoothly as possible.
Need a moving company√ Don’t sweat it – just fill out one form and
get responses from up to five local moving companies.
Moving Checklist
√ Gather enough containers or boxes to meet your needs.
√ Purchase several dark permanent markers to label your boxes or containers.
√ Get a package of stick-on labels fro items that are not going in boxes.
√ Get several rolls of packing tape – you never know how much you will
need.
√ Purchase insulation/cushioning material such as bubble wrap, Styrofoam popcorn
or use old newspapers to save money.
√ Write the name of the room on each packing container or box and list the
contents.
√ Properly dispose of all chemicals and fuels such as gas, kerosene, pesticides,
etc. Drain fluids from lawn and other equipment.
√ Clean our refrigerator and freezer unplug and let stand with doors open for
several hours. Wipe down with rag or paper towel to remove remaining moisture.
√ Put all critical documents such as bankbooks, birth certificates, passports,
wills, medical records, etc. in a fireproof box.
√ Create an inventory list of everything you packed to be sure all items reach
your destination and for insurance purposes. Photograph important or expensive
items.
√ Do a thorough walkthrough once everything is packed and loaded into the moving
truck or vehicles to make sure nothing is left behind.
Packing Tips
√ When packing boxes, put heavier items on the bottom and lighter items on top.
√ Pack boxes tightly to avoid shifting.
√ Fragile items should be packed with extra insulation in their own boxes.
√ Individually wrap electrical items before packing.
√ Avoid packing lampshades in newspaper, since newsprint could rub off on the
shade.
